What changes the price
- Length of the run. The main driver. A compact single-story home has far less guttering than a long ranch or a house with multiple wings.
- Number of stories. Second and third-story runs need bigger ladders and more repositioning.
- How much has built up. A gutter cleared last spring is quicker than one that has been packed solid for three years and grown a seedling.
- Access. Bellingham has a lot of houses that are one story at the front and three at the back — South Hill and the slope into Fairhaven especially. Sloping ground limits where a ladder can safely be set.
- Gutter guards. If they have to come off and go back on, that adds time.

Is it worth paying someone?
On a single-story house with good ground all round and a stable ladder, plenty of people do their own gutters and that is reasonable. The calculation changes on a second story, on sloping ground, or in the wet.
