How often should window screens be cleaned?

Once a year suits most homes, done at the same time as the glass. Places near working fields, a gravel road or the shoreline pick up more, and those often want it twice. If daylight through the mesh looks grey rather than clear, it is due.

Can you clean screens without taking them out?

We take them out. Brushing a screen in place pushes the dirt into the mesh and drops the rest onto the sill and the glass you just paid to have cleaned. Removing them means both sides get washed and rinsed properly.

Will you put them back in the right windows?

Yes, and it matters more than people think. Screens are rarely identical even in the same house, so they are tracked and returned to the opening they came from. A swapped screen is how you end up with one that will not sit in its channel.

What if a screen is torn or the frame is bent?

We show you and leave it as we found it. Screen repair and re-screening are not services we offer, so there is nothing in it for us to talk up a problem. Plenty of hardware stores will re-mesh a frame cheaply once you know which ones need it.

Do you clean the tracks and sills as well?

Tracks, sills and frames are part of our window cleaning work, and with the screens out is the right moment to do them. Say so when you book and we will make sure it is included in the quote rather than added later.

Is this cheaper booked with a window clean?

Why Screens Undo A Good Window Clean

A screen holds more than people expect. Fine mesh catches pollen, field dust, cottonwood fluff and the salt haze that comes off the water, and it holds all of it against the frame where rain cannot flush it out. On a north-facing window the mesh stays damp and the grime turns into a grey film you can see the light through.

The part that frustrates homeowners is what happens next. You pay for clean glass, the first real wind blows through a dirty screen, and the outside of the window is streaked again within a week. Cleaning the glass and leaving the screens is doing half a job, which is why we treat screens as their own service rather than an afterthought.
