A “standard window” is an ordinary residential unit of about two panes of glass — which is where the $8 works out to roughly $4 a pane. Very large picture windows, multi-pane divided lights and old wooden storms take longer and are priced accordingly, which we will tell you at the estimate rather than at the end.

What changes the price
- Number of windows. The main driver, and the one you can count yourself.
- Inside as well as out. Interior work is quoted separately, so it is your choice.
- Divided lights and old storms. A twelve-pane sash is twelve small panes to clean by hand, and wooden storms have to come down and go back up square. Common through the Lettered Streets, Columbia and Sunnyland.
- Height and access. Second-story glass is usually reachable from the ground with a water-fed pole. Awkward ground, steep lots or landscaping tight to the house add time.
- Condition. Hard-water spotting from sprinkler overspray has to be dissolved rather than scrubbed, and that is a different job from ordinary dirt.

Why Bellingham glass films over faster than you expect

Is professional cleaning actually different?

Pure water is the real difference. Tap water carries dissolved minerals, so it dries into spots no matter how well you squeegee. Water run through a purification system has nothing left in it to leave behind, which is why exteriors can be cleaned from the ground with a pole and left to dry without touching them.
