Silver Beach sits on the shore of Lake Whatcom, and living beside a lake changes what happens to your windows. Humidity stays high all year, so glass never fully dries, and glass that never dries is the ideal surface for algae. That is why the lake-facing and shaded elevations green over while the sunny side still looks reasonable. The mature conifers that make the neighborhood what it is add pitch, pollen and needle debris straight onto the panes and into the tracks, and the older lakefront homes here often still have their original wood sash, which cannot be scrubbed the way newer frames can.

Algae is living growth and has to be treated and rinsed rather than scoured, pitch needs releasing before anything touches the pane, and old sash needs hand work. We use purified water through a water-fed pole for the taller lake elevations and squeegee at ground level, with frames, sills and tracks included.
